One of my very favorite chick-flicks is “Emma,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow. I think she’s a great actress and one gorgeous lady. But do I think she’s headed for for country music stardom?

Probably not.

The new movie “Country Strong” features Paltrow as a country-comeback superstar trying to reclaim her title as the “it” girl after a stint in rehab. While it’s somewhat impressive that Paltrow can carry a tune (as many actors/actresses have proved), I don’t think she is quite as believable as other people are raving.

And I’m VERY disappointed that she decided to re-release a song with a profane title previously recorded by Cee-Lo in her spare time. How classy.

I’m not quite sure what it is about the music business that seems to pull in other superstars from different entertainment areas … we’ve lulled in many an actress (Nicole Kidman, Lindsey Lohan, and just about every single Disney channel star), some reality stars (Paris Hilton, Heidi Montag) and even a professional athlete (yes you, Thurl Bailey!).

It used to be that actresses WERE singers, such as Julie Andrews, Judy Garland, Lucielle Ball and even Maryiln Monroe. Then people started trying to differentiate themselves into either/or categories, and you didn’t need to be one to do the other. But more and more it seems the entertainment industry is morphing back into vintage entertainment, where people are wanting to be the old-fashioned, “best-all-around” performer: the actor-singer double threat.

On the other hand, there have been plenty of singers who have tried their hand at acting, which I think is actually an easier transition, as singers naturally take on a different role for every song they sing. They “act” through their music, thereby making it easier to act on stage.

Tim McGraw is one singer who I think hasn’t had much trouble on-screen; I actually liked him in “The Blind Side.” And Taylor Swift had a small cameo appearance in last year’s “Valentine’s Day,” which probably won’t be her last.

Again, I really love Gwenyth Paltrow the actress, but am not too thrilled with Gwenyth Paltrow, country singer.

What do you think about Gwenyth Paltrow’s singing voice? Are you going to see the movie “Country Strong?” Why or why not?
